Knowledge-wh and False Belief Sensitivity: A Logical Study (An Extended Abstract)

چکیده

In epistemic logic, a way to deal with knowledge-wh is interpret them as kind of mention-some knowledge (MS-knowledge). But philosophers and linguists have challenged both the sufficiency necessity such an account: some argue that has, in addition MS-knowledge, also sensitivity false belief (FS); others might only imply true (MS-true belief). this paper, we offer logical study for all these different accounts. We apply technique bundled operators, introduce four operators: $[\mathsf{tB}^\mathtt{MS}]^x \phi := \exists x (\mathsf{[B]} \wedge \phi)$, $[\mathsf{tB}^\mathtt{MS}_\mathtt{FS}]^x \phi) \forall \to $[\mathsf{K}^\mathtt{MS}]^x \mathsf{[K]} \phi$ $[\mathsf{K}^\mathtt{MS}_\mathtt{FS}]^x which characterize notions MS-true belief, FS, MS-knowledge FS respectively. axiomatize logics take above operators (as well $\mathsf{[K]}$) primitive modalities on class $S4.2$-constant-domain models, compare patterns reasoning obtained logics, order show how accounts differ from each other, what they common.

Logic and Topology for Knowledge, Knowability, and Belief - Extended Abstract

In recent work, Stalnaker proposes a logical framework in which belief is realized as a weakened form of knowledge [33]. Building on Stalnaker’s core insights, and using frameworks developed in [12] and [4], we employ topological tools to refine and, we argue, improve on this analysis. The structure of topological subset spaces allows for a natural distinction between what is known and (roughly...

How to Represent Knowledge and Belief? (extended Abstract)

Synopsis We introduce a logic for representing belief. We show that the logic is formally and practically adequate for reasoning about actual (or explicit) belief in the following sense: rst, it does not suuer from any kind of logical omniscience. Second, it can account for the intuition that agents are rational, though not hyperrational. Third, it is expressive enough. The advantages of the ne...

Outcome Knowledge and False Belief

Virtually every social interaction involves reasoning about the perspectives of others, or 'theory of mind (ToM).' Previous research suggests that it is difficult to ignore our current knowledge when reasoning about a more naïve perspective (i.e., the curse of knowledge). In this Mini Review, we discuss the implications of the curse of knowledge for certain aspects of ToM. Particularly, we exam...

Hybrid-Logical Reasoning in False-Belief Tasks

The main aim of the present paper is to use a proof system for hybrid modal logic to formalize what are called falsebelief tasks in cognitive psychology, thereby investigating the interplay between cognition and logical reasoning about belief. We consider two different versions of the Smarties task, involving respectively a shift of perspective to another person and to another time. Our formali...
